As the holidays draw near, I get lovely cards and gifts, as most teachers do. A few years ago, I received a surprising card from a second-grade boy. It was homemade and read:
“Thank you for giving me the writing spirit!”
I found this comment so profound for a young child of seven. It meant that writing became something personal to him, a form of artistic expression rather than another task in his day.
